Provision the IP Phone That's Not in the Auto Provisioning Supported List

Background

It's not easy to cover all the IP phones in the world for Auto Provisioning. So here is an alternative way to provision the IP Phones are Not in the Auto Provisioning supported list of S-Series VoIP PBX. Actually, in this guide, S-Series VoIP PBX works as a TFTP server.

Application Scope

Model: S-Series VoIP PBX

Version: 30.5.0.X or later

Configuration

1- Preconditions

  • PnP mode should be enable if the IP phone supports.  (PnP solution is not available anymore, please ignore)

For example (Yealink IP Phone):

  • If it doesn't support PnP mode, please enable the DHCP provisioning mode on the IP phone. While most of IP phones is enabled with DHCP mode by default if it doesn't support PnP mode. For more details about the support of provisioning mode, please refer to their provisioning guide or user guide. On the other hand, please enable the DHCP service and make sure the TFTP address is the IP address of S-Series VoIP PBX.

  • Create the configuration file based on the provisioning guide from the IP phone manufacture. And name the file accordingly. For example, Yealink configuration file would be named as MAC.cfg like "001565527b0a.cfg".

2 - Upload your configuration file.

3 - Reboot your IP phone to Perform the provisioning.

Thanks, this helped to get starting my Cisco 88xx and got the SEP<MAC>.cnf.xml onto the phone.

Can the TFTP Upload File mechanism use folders? As recent Cisco firmware is using folders for locale specific files, e.g.
    SIP_English_United_States/sl-he-sip.jar
