Intercom and Paging Group

Intercom and Paging Group are two of key Yeastar MyPBX features for users to make a one-to-one or one-to-many announcement. In this guide, you will learn how these two features function and how to use them on Yeastar MyPBX U Series.

Feature Introduction:

Intercom

Intercom is a feature that allows you to make a paging announcement to one extension via a phone speaker. The called party does not need to pick up the handset. It can be achieved by pressing the feature code on your phone and it is a two-way audio call (two way phone intercom).

Paging

Paging is used to make an announcement over the speakerphone to a phone or group of phones. Targeted phone(s) will not ring, but instead answer immediately into speakerphone mode. This feature is typically one way for announcements only, but you can set the paging group as a duplex mode to allow all users in the group to talk and be heard by all.

How to Use Intercom Function on MyPBX

The default Intercom feature code is *5. To make an announcement to a specific extension, you need to dial *5+ extension number on your phone. For example, make an announcement to extension 500, you need to dial *5500, then the extension 500 will be automatically picked up.

How to Use Paging Group Function on MyPBX

This feature is supported by the following SIP phones:

Yealink T28, T26, T22, T20, T10T, T9CM. Other SIP devices may also work with this feature but are not officially supported.

There are two types of paging group in MyPBX, Internal type and External type, which can be used to create a simple office paging system.

1. Internal Type

Click PBX--Advanced Settings--Paging Group to create one group.

The selected group of extensions will be picked up automatically when someone dials the group number.

Edit pagine group on MyPBX Web interface

  • Paging Group Number
Define the numbered extension that may be dialed to reach this group.
  • Duplex
Paging is typically one way for announcements only. Checking this will make the feature duplex, allowing all users in the group to talk and be heard by all.
  • *Answer
If it sets Yes, any user in the group will talk with the caller when they press “*”. If it sets No, users in the group can talk with each other without pressing “*”.

2. External type

It’s a new paging group type used for broadcasting via Audio Out interface. The default number is 630, the selected extension can dial paging number 630 to play his voice via Audio out interface.

Note: External Paging Group is only supported on MyPBX U100, U200, and U300.

Edit external paging on MyPBX

In the above figure, the selected extension 300 can dial 630 to make an announcement through MyPBX Audio Out.

Yeastar MyPBX

Connect a loadspeaker to Audio out port so that your voice can be played.

    Good day, Support Team!

My company is using Yeastar MyPBX U100 & U200.

I would like to ask if there is a way to implement the PIN settings (or any other way) for the PAGING groups so as TO RESTRICT other extensions/IP Phones from using the PAGING function.

    Thank you for your response.

    Good day Sujirou,

    If you are using audio out for paging, you can setup the permission to allow specific extension to be able to dial the paging number;

If you are not using audio out but just paging for IP phones, you can try setup the number of the paging group(default number range 630-649, you can change the default number range) to a longer one, for example 7 digits. Then keep the paying group number number in secret. I think this is some kind of PIN also. People that doesn't know the paging number will not be able to "use" the function.  : )

    Good day Sir,

Thank you very much for your response. I think this is a good workaround. May I ask how to change the default range to make it 7 digits long to make it more secured?

Thank you for your response, Sir. :)

Hi, new to the product line and getting ready to do our first test site (mypbx soho).  One of the last features I'm trying to get setup is intercom and internal paging.  We're using the Grandstream 2130 ip phone.  for the intercom, if I dial *5 + extension, so my example extension is 41002.  I dial *541002.  The phone just rings and doesn't pickup with the speakerphone.  Same behavior if I setup a paging group.  All the phones in the paging group just ring.

What am I doing wrong here??

    Thanks,
    John

    Hello Yeastar Team,

I have a problem with all my clients. This is mostly a problem with the U300 that I have deployed. It seems that when we setup a paging group, every time someone pages, the paging recipients get a missed call from the pager. Is there a work around for this? The clients find this bug very irritating.

As an example, extension 200 pages paging group 631. Paging group 631 consists of extensions 200-240 inclusively. Each one of these extensions will see a missed call from extension 200.

    Thanks

    tasso,

not sure which phone you're using, but I had a similar issue with the Grandstream 2130.  My problem was that for the specific sip account/Call Settings, Allow Auto answer by Call-Info had to be set to "Yes" on the phone.

    Mohammad,

With the paging group function, you can creage a paging group and select all the IP phones you would like to make the announcement, for example, if you create a paging group number 630 with SIP extesions 301, 302, 303, when you make a call to 630, the target SIP phones (where you registered 301, 302, 303) will not ring, you can make the announcement as soon as you make the call to 630.

setting up a S100 and was adding extensions to a paging group.  says it is limited to 30.   I need an page all extensions (more than 30).   anyway to override that?

Jon, the limitation is reasonable as the S100 supports for 30 concurrent calls. One paging call takes up one concurrent call. But the concurrent call can be extended to 60. So if you add a D30 card, you will be able to have upto 60 extensions in a paging group.

I know there is another way to do the paging (multi-case media), you need to customize the asterisk dial plan to support this.

    Hello All,

I was wondering if there was a way to replace the '*' to answer with 'picking up the phone'. Is that possible?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Alex,

I guess this is not possible. As when a paging call happen, all the extensions in the paging group has answer the call automatically, means the phone has been pick up.

So the system need to get some more instruction to know people would like to talk with the paging initiator.

Is there a way to answer the page on one (or more) of the extension(s) involved in the page group? I have been messing with the Duplex settings and * to answer but the most I can get is the page goes from all of the called extensions to just the one that presses * but cannot talk back to the pager. I am using MyPBX U100. Maybe I am not using the correct feature?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Alex,

When an extension is called by paging, all the called phones should answer the call automatically. If not, that means the feature not function properly.

If you already enable Duplex, the pager should hear the called extension even the called extension didn't press * key.

The * key in the paging group is used to "kick out" all other paging members and answer the phone to pager directly. This is normally used when the paging trying to page to lookup and talk to specific people in a large room/zone.

    Hello Daniel,

Where do you try to add these phones? Do you mean AUTO-Provisioning?

If so, I think you can try register the phones manually by access the IP phone's web GUI and configure the settings manually.
