Why not put the IAX2 protocol in Linkus too?

Larry Neblett There may be a couple of reasons -
Asterisk is the only system that uses IAX and this is why you don't see most endpoints - gateways, desk phones, etc. or even providers using it as they want to be universal to the market, whereas SIP is.
IAX has to be converted back into SIP at some point to accommodate the other extensions/devices/providers that do not support it, which requires the PBX to handle the conversion aspect.
Linkus is somewhat unique in its design in that it uses different ports and such for some of its functionality. I am uncertain if IAX would accommodate these.
However, your point about IAX being more compact, efficient and needing only one port is noted if only voice/video is needed.
