Question about DSS keys template

I have 2 questions about creating a template and auto provisioning. I have the Yeastar S50 with Yealink T46S phones. For these questions lets assume I have 4 phones setup, 100, 101, 102, 103.

I want to create a template to auto provision the phones and add the extensions to the home DSS keys. 

1. Do you need to add a Line key to be able to make outside calls or can I just add the 4 extensions?

2.Is there a way to have the phone swap out its own extension. For example, phone with extension 100 would change that key to something else?

  The question is a little hard to follow. It is not clear if you have 4 phones and each is assigned an extension or, if you have 4 phones and you want all 4 phones to have all 4 extensions assigned. 

  I am not sure I understand question # 2 at all. It sounds as if you are asking if there is a need to have a line key (DSS) associated to an extension such that it shows on the display as you are short of keys or want something else on the main screen other than the extension line. 

   

  Can you go into more detail as to what you are trying to accomplish?

  Sorry I will give this a second try. I have 4 phones that are not yet programmed. I plan on using extension 100 to 103, each having one of the extensions. The questions is about programming the software keys (I think they are called DSS keys).

  1. I want to have each phone contain all the extensions of the other phones on their screen, except for their own. Its kind of pointless for the phone that is assigned ext 100 to have its on ext on the screen isn't it? So for example phone with ext 100 will have 101, 102 and 103 on the screen for speed dial. Phone with ext 101 will have 100, 102, and 103 on the screen for speed dial. etc...

  I know I can program this manually phone by phone, but I am using auto provisioning with template and was wondering if there was a way that Yeastar did this automatically. 

  2. I've worked on other SIP phones, like Cisco SPA 5xx series, that you were required to add a Line key to the phone to be able to make outside calls. So the phones display template I would create would always have the speed dial location #1 as Line key, then the rest would follow with the extensions of the other phones.

  Let me see if I can explain. 

   

  DSS key is the Yealink terminology used to define keys that can serve a number of different functions. They also use "line" and "prgrammable" keys. While that may be some of the Yealink terminology, that does not mean that Yeastar or any other PBX manufacturer will use the same terms in the same manner as the phone maker. 

  This particular phone can support up to 16 different accounts and 27 programmable keys. My impression is that what you want is to have each phone setup with its own unique account (extension). 

  Then on each phone/extension, you would like to have the other 3 extensions setup as a BLF. This allows you to monitor the other extensions from each phone so that you can see their status (available, busy or ringing). The question is, where do you want the other (non-account/extension) keys to show? Use the T46 template in the Yeastar auto-provisioning app on the PBX. 

  You need at least one account/line key. This key represents the extension number assigned to the phone. You will probably have to play with the template a little to get the keys to fit where you want them as it will be Yeastar's template that will populate the respective fields. You will note that in the template, they have the account tab which is where you define the extension/account being assigned to the phone. 

  To start, set the account key to the first extension. This should occupy the hoe screen, 1st button. As there are 12 buttons, then set the line key #12 to a BLF for one the other extensions and then provision the phone. You should then be able to see where the BLF was placed and you can then adjust from there. 

  Depending on your needs, you may need to set some of the home screen buttons to line keys and then associate same to account 1 (the extension on the phone). It depends on your needs as without them, it may be hard or impossible to accommodate some features such as handling more than one call at a time and selecting which call to put on hold or to pick-up, three-way calling, attended transfer, etc. Once you have defined the extension needs, then you can populate the rest of the screen with BLF, call park, etc.

  The answer is no ,, Yes it would be a great feature and save a ton of time programming but there is no way to do it

  After re-reading the post, Gregory is correct. There is no automatic population, you will have to use the auto-provisioning function or do manually.

  Just Programmed (38) Yealink T27G with 14 DSS I feel your pain ;)
