S20 WAN and LAN Port

I just got my S20 IP PBX and I actually have this problem and make me confuse.

So I have an Internet Account coming with a SIP Trunk. Both of this, coming from 1 single router Huawei HG8245H (Ont modem). The internet come with dynamic IP. Now the S20 PBX can access the SIP trunk from the telecom provider, but cannot access the internet.

I have the following WAN info on my router.

1_VOIP_INTERNET_R_VID_100	Connected	10.XXX.XXX.37	100/0	AlwaysOn
2_INTERNET_R_VID_200	Connected	125.XXX.XXX.113	200/0	AlwaysOn

Please note thet the Internet IP is always changing since its not a static IP. But the VOIP WAN is always the same IP.

My router IP is 192.168.100.1.

Can you please advice me how to activate the WAN port, what configuration and static routes should I configure? I will appreciate your help a lot.

You will likely have better results by just using the LAN port. However, it is not clear if the SIP trunk is using a local IP or public and what that IP is.

You might try -

The Internet goes into the router which then handles the NAT to your local network. From the router there should be LAN output(s) and one should go to your switch. You can either connect the PBX to the switch or, if there is an available port on the router, to there.

The PBX network setting would still be the local IP, but the gateway would be that of the router for the Internet. If uncertain, set the PBX on the local LAN and set the IP settings to DHCP which will cause the PBX to request and receive an IP. You can then either reserve same in the DHCP server or set static using the same as that issued. Your VoIP trunk would reflect the IP provided by the provider (10.X.X.X?)

The lack of a static IP will come into play if you need to communicate to any device outside of your LAN (which again I am assuming the SIP trunk is being brought to the premises). If such is the case, then you may need to get a static public IP and if not available a DDNS FQDN.

Hi, sorry if I dont clarify my situation clearly.

So my telecom provider are provided me with a wireless router with 4 ethernet port. This router has special ethernet port (number 2) which only function for the sip trunk. So its something like private sip trunk. It can only be access from that particular ethernet port and cannot be access from the internet. So now the situation is, the LAN port of my Yeastar S20 are plug into the number 2 ethernet port in my router. It connect me the sip trunk perfectly, but not to the internet. So, now the S20 cannot connect to send email and cannot connect to my other sip trunk account.

My router network IP configuration is 192.168.100.1 / 255.255.255.0.

On this router, it has to WAN connection. Internet and VOIP (for the sip trunk).

WAN Internet has dynamic IPs, but the WAN VOIP has static IP. Bellow is the IP information I got from my router.

WAN VOIP

IP Acquisition Mode: DHCP

IP Address/Subnet Mask: 10.9.22.37/255.255.255.0

Gateway: 10.9.22.1

DNS Servers: 10.0.0.164

WAN INTERNET

IP Acquisition Mode: PPPoE

IP Address/Subnet Mask: 180.245.86.253/255.255.255.255

Gateway: 180.245.80.1

DNS Servers: 118.98.115.70,118.98.115.69

So, somehow it seems I need to activate both port in my S20 device to seperate the Private SIP Trunk access and the internet. But unfortunately I dont know how.

Thank you for the info, but unfortunately that doesnt work for me. So the scenario is like this. I have 3 SIP Trunk Account.

A is from my telecom provider (with private sip trunk)
B from skype
C from some other company

So provider give me a Huawei HG8245H ONT router which configured with 2 WAN Connection. So one for the internet and one for the private sip trunk account. The sip trunk account can only be use by connecting to ethernet port number 2. So ethernet number 1, 3 and 4 is free for internet.

I have the following WAN information from my router.

SIP TRUNK: 10.0.0.10 / 5060 (UDP)

VOIP WAN

NAT: Enable

IP Acquisition Mode: DHCP

IP Address/Subnet Mask: 10.9.22.37/255.255.255.0

Gateway: 10.9.22.1

DNS Servers: 10.0.0.164

INTERNET WAN (This is NOT STATIC IP)

NAT: Enable

IP Acquisition Mode: PPPoE

IP Address/Subnet Mask: 36.70.191.49/255.255.255.255

Gateway: 36.70.184.1

DNS Servers: 118.98.115.70,118.98.115.69

I try the above configuration but defenately not working for me. In the NAT Setting under PBX > General > SIP, I try to configured with EXTERNAL IP ADDRESS and EXTERNAL HOST since I'm using DDNS services, but both of them is not working.

Now, I have also try this.

In my Huawei HG8245H ONT router, there is a feature where I can setup a secondary IP address. So now I have 2 set of IP address with different class on my router.

LAN (The LAN port connect to a Hub which is also connect to the router)
192.168.100.101 / 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.100.1

WAN (The WAN port is connect to the router ethernet port number 2 which is private for the sip trunk)
192.168.111.2 / 255.255.255.248
Gateway: Empty

In the static route, I have try the following but none of them work.

Destination: 10.0.0.0
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: Empty
Interface: WAN

Destination: 10.0.0.10
Subnet: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: Empty
Interface: WAN

As for the NAT setting in PBX > General > SIP, I configured as follow.

NAT Type: External Host
External Host: XXXXX.ddns.net:5060
Refresh Interval: 120s
Local Network Ideentification: 192.168.100.1 / 255.255.255.0
Local Network Ideentification: 192.168.111.1 / 255.255.255.248
NAT Mode: Yes

And with this configuration, I can succesfully access the B and C SIP trunk account. But not the A which coming from my telecom company.

Any advice?

I am getting a little confused as you have some conflicting information.

For the provider SIP trunk you initially indicated -

"the VOIP WAN is always the same IP" and "

You then came back with -

The two seemingly represent the same trunk for the VoIP aspect from your provider, but the IP has changed and the setting in the latter is showing DHCP whereas you stated static.

If the document I saw about your ONT is correct, then there are no physical WAN ports. There are 4 LAN ports and 2 RJ telephone jacks. If such is the case then -

The reality is that you have an optical termination which is then distributed to the LAN ports of which there are 4. On the optical side, they are providing Internet connectivity through a PPOE account that utilizes a dynamic IP. It is through this path that the Skype and outside SIP Trunk provider can be reached. As this trunk is using a dynamic IP, it is this side that needs the DDNS FQDN so that the other two provider will know how to reach your public IP (at the time) so that NAT'ting to the PBX can take place.

The optical side is also delivering the provider's SIP Trunk service. The 10.x.x.x IP address being used is defined to be a private IP. I assume that they provided you with the SIP Server IP or FQDN and if a FQDN, a ping to same would resolve to the 10.x.x.x address. My guess is that the device is performing some of the functionality that an SBC might do in that rather than you having to send your messaging out externally, they have brought the SIP Trunk into your physical location. They do this for security reasons as well as being able to assure QoS on their voice side as the bandwidth is dedicated rather than shared.

For the external SIP Trunk services, you will need to set-up port forwarding to the PBX. For the provider SIP trunk, if the SIP server is indeed local, then you need to add the 10.x.x.x /255.255.x.x to the local network identification in General, SIP, NAT.

If I am correct, you are connecting your Ethernet cable to the LAN ports of the ONT. The LAN ports are all carrying the same info unless somehow the provider has segmented the ports and is able to deliver services to specific ports. I do not know where a LAN hub comes into play as you stated - "LAN (The LAN port connect to a Hub which is also connect to the router)

Hi, thank you for your respond.

So the 10.0.0.10 / 5060 is the SIP Trunk Server IP address.

The one I give 10.9.22.37/255.255.255.0 is the WAN information on my router.

Yes, no physical WAN port, only 4 LAN port. And for the Private SIP Trunk from my local telecom provider has been setup only to be use in the LAN port number 2.

And for the SIP Server IP 10.0.0.10, is pingable only from my computer if I plug the LAN cable to LAN port number 2 on my router. Its defenately cannot be RTO for PING coming from Wifi or other computer connect to LAN port others then number 2.

Regarding the Hub Switch, what I mean is... Since we have only 4 LAN port in the router, one port is being use for PBX so we only have 3 left. So Im using extra 8 LAN port hub.

So when you setup your computer's IP as 192.168.100.x/255.255.255.0, you will be able to ping 10.0.0.10, right?

Hi Oscar,

Yes its worked BUT only when I plug my LAN cable to port number 2 in the router. If I plug the LAN cable on port number 1 or 3 or 4, defenately wont work. The number 2 LAN port is a private port for the sip trunk, has no internet access.

OK, finally I'm able to fix this issue.

In my Huawei HG8245H it has ability to use a secondary IP address. So I activate that feature.

And in the S20 Network, I use the primary 192.168.100.1 / 255.255.255.0 as the LAN Network and 192.168.102.1 / 255.255.255.248 for the WAN network. I use no gateway on the WAN configuration. And for the WAN network, I must plug it into the LAN port number 2 in my router because my telecom provider are set it that way.

Then in the static route, this is the tricky one. I try to follow the post in this link https://support.yeastar.com/hc/en-us/articles/218200838-Solution-for-Private-SIP-Network by Oscar Colka which is help a lot, by leave the gateway empty in the network configuration for the WAN and set the gateway in the static route.

And finally it worked. The S20 device can now ping to 10.0.0.10 successfully.

My new question, do I need to activate the NAT still? If yes, what should I input in the NAT? Any advice please?
