TG800 sound quality problems

Hi,

We have two TG800 devices, both with same versions:

Product Type:

TG800

Hardware Version:

V1.30 0000-0000

Firmware Version:

55.18.0.43

 

.. And we are having sound quality problems with calls between the GSM phones and VoIP devices.

Sound quality is not that good to start with, but during the call sound kind of fades away and then comes back, just to fade again.

 

There's not that much traffic in the LAN, so I think the problem is somewhere else. Also switching between codecs does not seem to have any effect, so far I tried GSM, aLAW and uLAW, as these are natively supported by our VoIP environment.

 

I have tried calling to phone connected to our Asterisk, also to a phone connected straight to the TG800, the problem is always there.

 

Any ideas?

  P Ahonen, where is your TG800 installed? Is it in a server room? Please check the signal quality of the GSM. If the signal is poor, I would suggest you to try move the TG800 to another place and check again the call quality.

  Hi Oscar, thanks for your answer.

  The other one is in the server room, and the other one is currently on my desk.. and there's no problem with the signal quality on either device.

  Also, there are sim cards from two different providers and networks, the problems are there for both. :(

  Hi P Ahonen,

  Sorry, I didn't met this kind of issue with TG800 and couldn't help. I would suggest you to create a ticket and ask for help from Yeastar technical support team. :)

  Some mobile providers discourage the use of devices like the TG800. You won't find anything about this in their ToS, but often they do. They detect that the used SIMs have not switched to a different CELL tower for a while and initiate a throttle algorithm for calls being made with that particular SIM. Work around is to turn off the device -and thus disconnecting from the CELL tower- for a few hours a day.

  Hi P Ahonen, 

  Sounds like a similar issue I had.  And you took similar steps as far as trying different codecs.  I also tried disabling NAT and a couple other things.  But what ended up solving it for me was to turn up the TxGain on the GSM settings. It's set to 40% by default and when I turned it up to 80% my issues went away.  The fading in and out happened primarily at the beginning of calls.  Hope you figured this out by now as this post is king of old.

  Hi All,

   

  I'm also having same issue with TG1600 & TG800 both. I did manipulate with the Txgain value. It works for some time, but after few calls, voice breaking too much.

  Replaced the TG800 with other TG800, issue still the same. Didn't found issue with TG400/TG200.

  Any help will be highly appreciable.
