Hi Javier, I think the difference is VoIP trunk required username and password for authentication while Service Provider doesn't required.

Basically VoIP trunks are used connect to VoIP providers (authentication required)
Service provider trunks are for peer to peer connections and are good for inter-branch solutions or stacking MyPBX's on top of each other
As well as what Tim has said - some SIP carriers like to register based on the PBX IP address rather than password - the Service Provider option. It does depend on the site having a fixed IP address. Password only methods suffer from the risk that the credentials can be used elsewhere else if not well protected.
